  1. Never heard of nursery being allocated If it is because she is being sent to a school that has a nursery?.Parents apply to the school of there choice so her parents must of done this.If not they can appeal but are there any in your area with these facilities.Hi just read your added note your daughter now needs to prove that she has good reason for your grand daughter to go to a different school she needs to find out the criteria eg are siblings given more priority or if distance is a factor.Or if she can prove it would be a finacial burden eg they have to travel on public transport if she is on low income no car .Also try to find out where her daughter is on the list for the other school as people do drop out .She needs to contact the education officer in the area and get as much info as possible try to find out if others have appealed and if they had any success.Good luck

  2. Has your granddaughter gone to a nursery school or a day nursery?  If it is a nursery school then perhaps there were no places available in her closest one.  If you are not happy with the distance why not send her to a pre-school closer.  I own a pre-school and there is no difference to sending her to a pre-school or a nursery.  Everyone has to follow the same curriculum and everyone will be working on the foundation stage for children until the end of their reception year at school.

I am not totally sure, but I don't think the LEA will allocate when it is a nursery school I think the nursery itself will offer places.  If you have a complaint you can always appeal to the LEA contact your local County Council and find out what the procedures are.

  3. u can ask for this decision to be changed or look at private nursery's that offer free grant places, most private day care nursery's will offer free grant sessions

    good luck

  4. Contact the local education dept and find out why, she should be in the catchment area

  5. i had a similar experience and found that talking to the councils education department can help be extra sweet  as  u may get further and if they are not helping then put your foot down  as it is your granddaughters right to be able to access a school of her choice. and keep applying to the school you will be surprised the amount of children that drop out of a school or nursery because they got another choice  they pref fer a lot more than the one they got good luck

  6. I completely understand how your daughter feels.  We were lucky enough to get our daughter into the school we wanted as it is attached to the church we attend, however, even though the school is not government funded the local council still feel that they have the right to tell the governers who can and cannot attend and as a consequence even though she attended at the nursery of the school we had to apply for her to go into the reception class and will have to reapply for her to gain entry into the infant school.  A number of the parents have also complained that parents who decided to send their children to private nurseries rather than the one attached to the school still are chosen over children that have attended the nursery for the past year.  Last year this meant that some 10 children didn't get into the reception class and had to start all over again at a different school.  Your daughter definately needs to take this up with her local council and keep making a fuss till they do something about it.
