Question:

No Cobra will that cause problems?

Hello,

I have been on leave since the past 2 months. I will be back to work next week. I missed the enrollment period for Cobra and I was wondering if I should enroll in a health insurance plan right now (Cobra alternative) or will I be safe without insurance till I get back to work. Will the gap create a problem with my original health plan?

  1. bad!!!

  2. You have 90 days to enroll in COBRA.

It shouldn't make a difference when you return to work.

  3. You may or may not have a problem, we don't have enough information here to tell. Are you going back to the same company or job?

If you have pre-existing conditions the insurance company may place a waiting period on those conditions if you've had a gap of more than 63 days without insurance even if you're going back with the same insurance. Whether they do or not will depend upon the company and your situation. The only way to know is to call your HR department or the insurance company. If you've had a gap it's too late now to get on a plan since you're going back next week.

Contrary to the above answer, you have 60 days to elect COBRA.
