No Deal Soon Could Signal End of Entire 2012-2013 Regular Season -NHL Lockout Update
With over three months gone now since the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end and the lockout now entering 100 days, which will be on Monday, fans are gearing up to either see a 2012-2013 regular season sometime in January or ready to
face an entire cancellation altogether.
Keeping up with various social media websites like Facebook and Twitter, it is not hard to see that fans are angry with how the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association have handled the situation thus far. With recent most cancellations being
through January 14, bringing the total to well over 600 contests that have been locked out now.
Half of the season is gone and fans realise that, but they are now waiting. Either there will be a fast paced half season or none at all, but with veteran hockey analysts like Don Cherry keeping their hopes up, there are many that continue to follow news
everyday looking for that headline of the lockout having come to an end.
Experts are of the view that the NHL cannot afford a second cancellation in less than a decade, as they saw what happened by locking out the entire 2004-2005 regular season, and attempting to do that again would result in mayhem for the sports league. Looking
at how the NHL is a $3.3 billion a year, team owners and players, both stakeholders just cannot afford losing out on such major revenue and either one is bound to collapse in their demands at some point or another.
Some, like Don Cheery, are comparing this lockout to the one faced back in 1994-1995, which was a shortened season, but much to look forward to when everything got back in place. The next few weeks should be exciting in this regard as both sides have completely
run out of options after trying a number of things. From team owners and player meetings to using federal mediators to intervene, the league and labour union failed to get a hold of a deal and are now looking towards the sky for some sort of miracle to happen.
