  1. Yeah ..GOOD!.... Its a day on the "calender" that has its own uniqueness... Like the AFL Grand Final , Melbourne Cup, Grand Prix , and the Tennis Open etc ..those days are never muscled into , neither should GOOD FRIDAY!

  2. I wish the announcement went the other way.

Good friday is a boring day with nothing open at all. So you tend to just sit around with family and friends...and theres nothing better than watching a good game of footy when you've nothin better to do. I honestly believe, if it was a game at the MCG, it would draw a crowd to rival the ANZAC Day clash!

  3. Andrew did the right thing out of respect, and to accommodate other religions  than a religious footy supporter.

There are plenty of days to have a footy match, but only one Good Friday each year.

I recall a few years back when a certain club president didn't want one of his players taking part  in the game on a Saturday, due to it being the Sabbath.

Difficult to accommodate all faiths, but this is the history and reverence of Australia, until someone else scraps  all public holidays, and then another problem crops up.

  4. Yes, very glad.

It's nice for a change to have the day without footy.

Don't get me wrong, I love my footy but sometimes it can get in the way of what really matters, and for me, spending time with my family is always #1.

Also, It is respectful to Christians who, for Good Friday is a very reflective day.

  5. I'm pleased about that actually.  Only because Easter is one of the weekends I had set aside for my pilgrimage to see the puddy-cats play.  Friday's a real bugger to drive or fly down and then watch a game!

(You watch, they'll be playing in Perth or sumfin like that!)

You can see I'm a very religious type :-)

  6. I agree Good Friday is about easter and the sick children in Australia not footy

  7. If I remember right it was the same Melbourne clubs that got the games each year. So, if they ain't gonna share them around then no-one should get them.

  8. WELL THANK GOD!!!!!

Good Friday is a day of mourning for our Lord Jesus.A day of rest and fasting.

Yes I know that there are non believers and non Christians, but the majority of people are ,SO for me personally...I'm glad!!!

  9. Yeah it doesnt bother me, my ;life isnt based on footy. If I miss a game i watch th replay, so i wouldnt care if its on Good Friday or Easter. Im glad its not though,

  10. I think that's good.

  11. disappointed, good Friday is probably the most boring day of the year, good luck to all the Christians celebrate and enjoy this religious holiday as much as you like but why do the rest of have to sit around and twiddle our thumbs-it would have been a great day to play footy (like the rugby does) and you'd easily get 80,000+ ,personally id go and i wouldn't care which 2 teams were playing,it would beat watching the good Friday appeal.

  12. A number of players have made comment that they'd rather not play on Good Fridays.

  13. I think it is a good decision because it gives people a chance to get the family thing out of the way without missing any footy.

  14. I'm disappointed. North have been asking for a Good Friday match for about 15 years, not that it would have gone to them if it was approved - probably to Collingwood or Essendon or Carlton or Richmond (funny how only one of the so-called 'powerhouses' made the eight this year, isn't it? I'm sure that won't get in the way of a heap of Friday night matches for them in 2008, though. Yay.)

  15. the only thing missing in a great year of AFL

its about time the AFL steaped up into the real world with other sports

    very disappointing
