No Hot Spot technology to used for England-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Test series – Cricket News Update
Sri Lankan cricket secretary, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713, on Tuesday confirmed that the Decision Review System (DRS) will be in play when the Islanders host England for a two-match Test series at home later this month. However, Hot Spot is unavailable for this
series, and the Snickometer will be in used to determine edges.
This particular version of the review system for the England series is the same as the one that was used for the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in August – September last year. The SLC had not used Hot Spot for that series, as it is expensive to employ.
Hawk Eye will be in use for the series for ball tracking, to help in adjudging Leg Before Wicket (LBW) decisions. The creditability of Hawk Eye has been questioned previously, with the makers of the technology admitting that there have been mistakes in tracking
the path of the ball. In a prior incident, Australia’s wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 had claimed that in the second Test, Tharanaga Paranavitana had gloved a ball down the leg-side to him, but the technology failed to detect an edge and the batsman was given the
benefit of doubt.
"It's pretty hard with those ones in general for umpires where it comes off the glove or the hip or the bat. It's pretty hard with no Hot Spot as well; it's hard to make a decision. I was pretty confident then that we got some glove," Haddin had said of
the incident.
England have had issues of their own with Hot Spot. During their home Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 claimed that the technology fails to detect faint edges. During the second Test of the Pataudi Trophy at Trent
Bridge, Nottingham, the Poms were convinced that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 had edged the ball, but he survived, as Hot Spot failed to detect a faint edge. Snickometer, on the other hand, detected the edge but it was not in use for the series.
Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 are scheduled to play two Tests, starting from March 26, 2012.
