No India-Pak series in 2012 as Asia Cup 2012 to be held as scheduled - Cricket News Update
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday confirmed that the 2012 Asia Cup will take place on its scheduled dates, hence ruling out the possibility of much anticipated India Pakistan series in 2012. This was decided at the Asian Cricket Council’s meeting
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Singapore-c3005 earlier this year.
According to the Future Tour Programme (FTP) of International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625), Pakistan was scheduled to tour arch rivals India in March-April 2012 and both the boards were finalising tour details. The India-Pakistan series was clashing with the 2012
Asia Cup scheduled to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 from March 12 to March 22 next year.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 had both requested the ACC to postpone the event in order make the much awaited Indo-Pak series happen, but the council, in its meeting earlier this week, turned down the request, deciding
to organise the tournament on the dates already announced.
The PCB Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmed told ESPN cricinfo that the idea of postponing Asia Cup had been ignored due to various technical reasons.
"It was agreed that the Asia Cup 2012 would go ahead on the proposed dates," said Subhan Ahmed in an interview to ESPNcricinfo. "There was discussion of the ACC postponing the Asia Cup if both India and Pakistan agreed to play their series within that slot
but that idea has faded out for many reasons."
Pakistan was also looking the ACC meeting as a platform to convince its Indian counterparts for the controversial bilateral series between India and Pakistan but all went in vain as the BCCI representative, Ratnakar Shetty, was unable to give any assurance
in the absence of board president N Srinivasan.
"Pakistan-India series was not on the agenda at the ACC meeting but we were looking forward to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srinivasan-c90829 coming across to discuss it," said Ahmed while talking to the media reporters on Thursday evening. "We had an ideal platform here to talk with our India
counterpart but he [Srinivasan] didn't attend the meeting. He [Shetty] was not in a position to talk on it,” he added further.
