No Kinect support in Halo 4, confirms developer
343 Industries has confirmed that the latest offering in the Halo franchise will not have any support for Kinect.
In an interview with CVG, Halo franchise director Frank O’Connor conceded that the sci-fi shooter would be Kinect-free, though the motion sensor input device will be implemented in the stand-alone Halo Waypoint app.
O’Connor explained that the gameplay of Halo 4 was such that the Kinect control is not suitable for it and therefore the studio decided to stick with the conventional controller.
He said that studio is aware of the potential of the motion sensor input device to have an excellent synergy with the UI features and that is something that the team is pretty excited about.
However, as far as the controls are concerned, the consistency and fast response required to
“More than most other games, it is directly linked to the muscle memory of holding an Xbox controller, going back as far as the days of the Duke on the first Xbox,” said O’Connor. “Kinect is a logical extension of the UI, and with regards to some of the
sci-fi themes we're actually pretty excited about it, but not for the controls.”
The confirmation will definitely come off as a huge relief for the fans who are yet to accept the implementation of Kinect controls in AAA games.
The core gamers in particular are not ready to move on to the motion sensor controls just yet because of the many glitches that still exist.
Halo 4 is the first of three games in the new Reclaimer Trilogy and scheduled to hit the market on November 6. There are huge expectations from the upcoming title in the franchise, with some new weapons, characters, vehicles and other gameplay elements being
introduced.
343 Industries was handed over the duty of looking after the Halo universe after the previous developer Bungie parted ways with Microsoft to try out new things. The new studio will definitely find itself under a lot of pressure since there are huge expectations
to live up to, but it seems that the latest Halo game will do just fine as it has been in development since 2009.
