No Labour Talks Scheduled between League, Players Association -NHL Lockout Update
If anyone looking for an update on the lockout situation between the National Hockey League (NHL) and NHL Players’ Association, there is nothing new to talk about as both stakeholders have not contacted each other since everything collapsed along with nothing
scheduled for the future up until now.
Talks are not scheduled between the two stakeholders up until now and there is no clarity on what might come about in the upcoming days. Some sources are citing taking the battle, fully, to court and stop meeting face-to-face.
On the other hand, the Players’ Association is ready to get back into the drawing room and is looking to meet again with the league, but nothing new has been announced by the labour union in as to what their strategy may be.
"A phone call," NHLPA Special Counsel, Steve Fehr told ESPNNewYork.com when reached via telephone Monday evening. "I had the impression when we ended the session on Thursday that they had nothing more to say at this time. As soon as they're ready, we're
ready."
"We are ready, willing, able and eager to negotiate," Fehr added. "We want to get an agreement and we want to get it done as soon as possible."
The lockout is closing in on becoming three months old now as the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end on September 15th. Talks actually kicked off earlier in June of this year and there has been nothing very significant in
regards to ending the work stoppage since then.
A number of proposals have been made by both sides but none have really appealed to the other side, resulting in sheer rejection from both. The union has practically begun moving towards voting whether they want to keep the representation or not and with
700-plus members set to caste their opinions, it only seems like things will keep on getting stranger and interesting.
Updates should be expected in the upcoming days as both sides may or may not be going into any negotiations after taking the matter to court. Not much time is left and both sides acknowledge that fact.
