No Malaysian female shuttler to contest in Singles category at the 2011 World Championships
No Malaysian female shuttler will be participating in the Women’s Singles category at the 2011 World Championships, starting from August 8, in London. Malaysian female shuttlers could not qualify for the mega event, which is quite alarming for the Badminton
Association of Malaysia (BAM).
Wong Tat Meng, former coach of Malaysia in the category of Women’s Singles, is also surprised to see that no Malaysian female shuttler is there to represent the country in the world meet in the category of Singles.
However, Tat Meng, who is currently coach of Indonesia’s national team, has a belief that BAM will certainly tackle this issue. He said, “But I am sure BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) are aware of it and are doing something about it. Sometimes, we
cannot see the “fruit” immediately. I hope Tee Jing Yi, Lydia Cheah, Sonia Cheah and Yang Li Lian will make it big.”
While talking about his training in Indonesia, Tat Meng said, “The players here are very open and willing to change and adapt to the coaching programme.”
He further expressed his targets for shuttlers of Indonesia by saying, “My goal here is to prepare the team for the Olympic Games. I am helping the girls to improve their world rankings. I want them to be in the top 16.”
Two shuttlers from Indonesia are participating in the Women’s Singles category at the World Championships, which include World Number 31, Adrianti Firdasari and World Number 40, Lindaweni Fanetri. Tat Meng also expressed that shuttlers from India, Taiwan,
Germany and Denmark are catching up with Chinese females in the sport.
The absence of Malaysian shuttlers in the mega event clearly highlights the loop poles in the system of BAM. Malaysia is one of the top nations that have attained a higher level of prestige in this game by producing world-class players. Despite a rich history,
no female shuttler in the Singles category was able to qualify for the world meet.
The stage is ready for the world meet and all top shuttlers in the world of badminton will try to prove their supremacy in the arena, by opening their campaign in dominating fashion.
