Sony is looking to breathe new life into Home by unveiling two new games that will be available through the platform including a post-apocalyptic shooter and an RPG.
Sony Computer Entertainment released Home as the PlayStation 3’s equivalent of Facebook and other social networking mediums. A player could create their own Avatar, dress him up, interact with others, watch trailers, go bowling and even play chess with other
players.
There was of course the danger of being chased around by a horde of guys if you happened to be the one female avatar online but that happens everywhere else online as well.
Sony, however, has been more aggressive in promoting Home in recent months as it has been releasing a tonne of content exclusive to Home.
This ranges from Resistance 3 themed areas to multiplayer first-person shooters for fans to play in. While those were more casual, it seems that developers at their studio are growing increasingly ambitious and have announced two titles scheduled for release
this summer.
The first is targeted at all the Role-Playing Game fans out there. Titled ‘Mercia’ Sony pitched the game as “Home’s exclusive multiplayer RPG (Role-Playing Game). Take up your sword and embark on a journey through a fantastical world where adventure lies
around every corner.”
It continued, “Mercia offers players an enchanting online game experience across wondrous lands where heroes are born...and magic reigns supreme.”
For those gamers who would rather blow people’s faces off with fire-arms there is No Man’s Land which is described as a “hyper-violent, intensely gritty, and absolutely not for the faint-of-heart, No Man’s Land is a post-apocalyptic third-person shooter
unlike any other game in the history of PlayStation Home.”
A trailer for No Man’s Land has been released and it seems worthy of at least a checkout when it releases on Home later on this year.
It seems Sony are not giving up on Home just yet as they continue to push the platform and take it into new directions, yet one has to ask the question of whether this will finally make Home appeal to the masses or whether it is just another new feature
in Home that gamers will get over quickly.
