No Nay Never secures a comfortable win in Norfolk Stakes – Horseracing news
No Nay Never secured a comfortable victory in the Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) at Ascot in England on Thursday, June 20, 2013.
The American challenger took everyone by surprise, as he was victorious by a comfortable margin of one length. He entered the competition from the eighth trap and was unable to pressurise his opponents at the stage. His start was really awkward and it appeared
that he would not manage to comeback from that situation.
However, the two-year-old colt handled the pressure really nicely and bounced back strongly midway through the race. He got into the lead inside the final furlong and did not allow his rivals any chance towards the end.
Wesley Ward, the winning trainer, was pleased with the performance of his stallion and said that he was not surprised at all, as No Nay Never had been training really hard and was in a very good shape before heading to Ascot.
Looking at the outcome of the race, Ward said, “That's what we expected. He kind of sits in the gate and gets relaxed, but he came through for us.”
On the other hand, Joel Rosario was ecstatic after riding his first stallion to victory at Ascot. He said, “I'm happy to be here and it's awesome. He put it all together, took me to the lead and is a good horse.”
No Nay Never has started his career in a very good fashion and it seems that he would definitely be able to appear in Group 1 races in the near future. He does not have much experience at the moment, so it will be better for him to stretch his winning streak
further and then take on some of the best runners in the business.
On the other hand, another American runner Wind Fire impressed in the Norfolk Stakes, finishing third overall. Her trainer David Brown was confident that the young filly would be able to represent the owners in bigger events and said, “I knew she was a proper
horse and you'd have to say she'd have won the Queen Mary based on that run. It will be all the good races, like the Lowther and Cheveley Park, now.”
The two-year-old filly has appeared in just three races until now, winning one of them. She needs to start winning with more consistency otherwise rival stallions will not allow her to settle down easily.
