No Olympics for Chinese women’s football team
The Chinese women’s national football team recently lost a match to Japan that stopped the Chinese from going on to the Olympics tournament next year. Despite the fact that the match was played in their home ground in Xinhua, China will not be making it
to the Olympics for the very first time in history.
A total of five teams took part in the 2012 London Games Asian qualifiers from which only the top two teams will now be heading to the Olympic Games next year. The team that stood first in the tournament is Japan, the squad that is also the current world
champions. On the other hand, the second position goes to the North Koreans.
The Chinese has gotten themselves the fourth position with a total of five points while the Japanese are leading the pack with an impressive number of 13 points. North Korea has been able to bag 11 points while the Australian Matildas have nine points in
the third slot. South Korea obtained four point in the tournament while Thailand stood at zero as they could not secure a single win.
The coach of the Chinese team made the following comments after the match had reached its close: "I felt sorry that we couldn't use a victory to bring happiness to the Chinese people for the Mid-Autumn Day but the players have tried their best. I'm a man
to keep promise. Thanks all the players, the team staff, my family, and also the media.”
The Chinese fell against the Japanese by 1-0 but it was not this defeat that brought an end to Chinese hopes. China had already been ousted from the running for the Olympics before the match against the Japanese. This was done as DPR Korea was able to win
against Thailand by an impressive score of 5-0.
The London 2012 Olympic Games next year is the third Olympic event that will be taking place in the city of London. The first time that the Games made their way to the city was in 1908 while the third time it was in 1948. After having staged the Games next
year, London will become the first city in the world to have done so three times.
