The injured Kings XI Punjab skipper, Adams Gilchrist, confirmed on Tuesday that the out of form opener Paul Valthaty would not play in Wednesday’s return-leg Indian Premier League match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, to be played at the latter’s backyard,
M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
"I don't play Valthaty tomorrow,” said the Kings XI Punjab skipper, who will also miss Wednesday’s match against RCB as he has not fully recovered from the hamstring strain he had sustained a couple of weeks ago.
“We know his skills. He had a wonderful tournament last year. Unfortunately he did not get a good start this year and also has a wrist injury. This is in his mindset. He is working hard to get back into the team," he added further.
Valthaty, the 28-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maharashtra-c811 batsman who has had an outstanding 2011 season with the Kings XI, has been struggling for form right from the start of the tournament and has failed to make an impact in any of the five games he has played this season.
The top-order batsman succumbed for single digit scores in four of his five innings for KXIP this year as he has amassed just 28 runs at an average of 5.60.
Replying to a query regarding the wicket at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Gilchrist said that the groundsmen have prepared a terrific practice wicket and hoped a similar wicket will welcome them on Wednesday night.
"The practice wickets here are very similar to the track in the centre,” said the 40-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 wicketkeeper batsman, who has not played a match since April 18, due to a hamstring strain.
“It's terrific to have that quality of practice in what I think will be very much the match situation. That's credit to the ground staff here," he added further.
