No Regular Season if Team Owners Do Not Compromise states Troy Brouwer -NHL Lockout Update
Many have already lost in their being any hockey played during the 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, but according to Washington Capitals’ veteran player, Troy Brouwer, that is only possible if the team owners budge from their stance.
It is only human nature that each side believe that they are the ones on the right side, but it is hard to give it to the team owners that they have been compromising as much as the players have, and that too, on logical grounds. Knowingly, franchise owners
have been unwilling to give up any share of their revenue to players and in turn, what to decrease the labour share even further, which by many experts, is seen to be something that will be extremely harmful for the sport.
With more cancellations being made by the league, chances of having any season played out at all are decreasing day-by-day.
“It’s a little disappointing that the league doesn’t have enough faith in the process that they’re getting closer to canceling the season,” Brouwer told CSNWashington.com. “We think there are definitely terms for an agreement to be reached right now but
there needs to be talks or nothing is going to work itself out.”
Brouwer, being the Capitals’ representative during the negotiation process, knows what is going on behind closed doors, thus, denying what he has to say would be a foolish mistake. For him, these cancellation were probably the last before fans lose out on
seeing a season at all, or if things work out the way they hope, hockey will be on, but the chances of that are little to none.
“I don’t know, maybe their strategy is to drag this out as long as they can and hope something breaks on our end rather than playing games,” he added. “It’s disappointing because we feel we should be playing hockey right now and there’s no reason we shouldn’t,
except for some stubborn people who aren’t willing to make a deal and just trying to create more money for themselves.”
Brouwer is a 27-year-old native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and was picked up by the Chicago Blackhawks as the 214th overall back in round-seven of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
