No Silent Hill HD patch for Xbox – Video Games Update
Konami has announced that they will not be patching the Xbox 360 version of Silent Hill HD collection where as the PlayStation 3 version has been patched.
It has been reported that the Silent Hill HD collection was ported to the High definition consoles from an incomplete code which lead to many in-game bugs regarding sound and frame rate in the final game. While Konami has released the patch for the PlayStation
3 version of the game, Xbox 360 fans were let down by the developer as it stated that Microsoft’s console would unfortunately not be getting a patch.
Konami has stated that the Xbox 360 version of the patch was cancelled due to technical issues and lack of resources. This could get Konami in trouble with gamers if they decide to leave the Xbox 360 owners with a broken game.
This news does bring the recent Fez scandal to mind. Indie developer Polytron also refused to release a new patch for Fez on the Xbox 360 because the developer stated that Microsoft charged ‘too much’ for certifying new patches and updates. Polytron claimed
that it did not have ‘thousands of dollars’ to spend for fixing the bugs that were only plaguing one percent of the total customers that purchased the game.
The question that arises from this debacle is that whose fault is it? Is Microsoft to blame for charging developers for applying patches that FIX the games or are the developers at fault for not having sufficient quality control checks to iron out the bugs
before the game is launched? The answer is basically both of them.
Microsoft can’t justify charging developers for game updates when the competition (Steam) allows the same service to developers for free. Konami is also to blame for releasing a shoddy HD port of an old game just to make a quick buck but refuses to spend
any additional cash to fix the broken game for the players who paid for it.
Konami has stated that it will continue to sell the Xbox 360 version of the game and gamers who have any questions regarding the purchase can contact Konami customer support.
