No Tipping?

Question

I went out to eat and this family didn't tip. Wat the heck? There was 6 of them. And it is approximately $10 a person. We only had 3 people and we left a $5 tip. Not much, but way better than nothing. It was this family who I guess just got out of church since they had nice clothes and it was sunday at 1 p.m.

That made me mad. Why wouldn't you tip? The waitress was nice

maybe they dont have the money to tip, however, not leaving anything for a tip is realy rude but they prolly had a reason. or......  the tip might of already been included in the price since they had 6 people

It is possible that the tip was placed on the credit card in which case you would not have seen a tip left on the table.  Also, the family could have handed the server the tip personally rather than leaving it on the table.  I often do this if the restaurant is very busy and I want to be sure that my waitress actually gets the tip.

I believe that the right thing to do is tip I mean if you get good service you should give a tip in return.

There's no excuse for that. If you can't afford to tip the waitress, don't go out to eat. These people live off of tips, basically. Why would somebody do that? That's just horribly rude. Unless the waiter/waitress was very crappy, there's no need for that. And even if they were, at least tip something. It doesn't matter if you have cash or not, if you use a credit card there's always a spot on the receipt to fill in a tip. Wow, some people are rude. I agree with you.

In Australia we don't tip at all, for anything. When I went to America it was so weird to tip people for EVERYTHING, doorman, waitress, taxi driver. Maybe this family didn't know that they had to tip.

They probably tipped on their credit card- which you didn't see...the only time you don't tip 15% is if the service is bad. To leave absolutely no tip should only be done when the service was offensive.

I think that if they were able to tip, they should have. It is the right thing to do. If the waitress was nice, she deserved a tip! Its how she makes her money. However, there may be circumstances behind it even if it seems like they were just being rude.

That is pretty cruddy.  I hope they don't frequent there often, it is NEVER a good idea to tick off people who have your food out of your sight.

How you tip is how you will be remembered, if you dint leave a tip and decide you want to come back, you are going to have horrible service no refills and you food will come out late. If you tip average to great, so your service will be the same. I'm a bartender,your prior tip determines the strength and quality of you future drinks!

even if ive had the worst service i leave a tip. not a good one but atleast a little something. its so rude to  not tip. servere work hard to try to make ppl happy and most of the time it isnt even their fault. i work at a steakhouse and when steaks arent cooked right or are over done, some customers flip out on me. i wasnt the one back there cooking!!! eat at home if your gonna be a ***** about it!! and! if you cant afford to tip then dont go to a restaurant. easy as that. and tipping is usually 15-16% and an easy way to do that is just double the tax. be nice to your servers, they control your food!
