No Way Back and Aleph Sailing Team lose top positions on Day 4 of 2011 RC44 Sweden Cup
Leaderboard toppers at the end of Day 3, second placed Aleph Sailing Team and first placed team No Way Back, have lost their position at the end of Day 4. They were replaced by Slovenia’s
Team Ceeref and Great Britain’s Team Aqua respectively. The former are now placed on third and fourth positions with 35 and 36 points respectively.
The sailors set sail in the races a bit late on Day 4 due to heavy weather conditions, as the wind was blowing around 30 knots over Marstrand Island with heavy shifty gusts and some three-meter
swells on Marstrand Island waters. However, the races began on a repositioned race course after the winds slowed down to 16 knots.
No Way back had a tremendous sail on Day 3, grabbing a first and a fourth place to lead the overall standings in the end. But they couldn’t maintain their top position as they didn’t sail
well in the first race and finished at number 14.
The Dutch team grabbed the second race victory but still couldn’t make it to the expectations. In the meanwhile, Aleph Sailing Team grabbed an eighth and a fifth place to finish third
overall.
While speaking to the local media after the races, No Way Back’s Pieter Heeremas said, “Probably the current was pushing us more than anyone has taken in to account, maybe the fleet is
getting nervous that it’s getting to the end of the season and the races are starting to count.”
Aleph Sailing Team’s owner driver Hugues Lepic explained, “I don’t know how we got such good comebacks, we had pretty good speed up wind and especially in the second race we had good boat
speed downwind as well.”
