No added pressure after being named as T20 captain, says Mohammad Hafeez – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 has played down the talks of added pressure on him after he was named as the T20 captain of Pakistan for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
The 31-year-old Sargodha born all-rounder replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 as the T20 captain on Thursday, as Pakistan Cricket Board selectors announced separate squads for the ODI, T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka, to be played in the latter’s backyard this
summer.
Whilst a majority of former players and pundits have welcomed the decision, there are many who think captaincy would bring additional pressure to the all-rounder and affect his personal form as well. However, Hafeez has said that he was ready for the additional
responsibility and it would not be a burden.
"Representing Pakistan is always an honour and captaining it is more than that. Now being a captain, I don't see any added pressure," said Hafeez while addressing a press conference after being appointed as the national T20 captain. "The strategy might be
different but while implementing them I will take my coaches and PCB on board to get the best results," he added further.
Misbah, who was appointed as the Test captain of Pakistan in October 2010, took over as the one-day captain from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in eight T20 Internationals winning six of them. His last assignment as the T20 captain was
the three-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 in February this year, which his side lost 1-2, the only two games Misbah lost during his tenure as the T20 captain.
Misbah also welcomed the decision with open heart and said that he will always be there to support his successor.
"Changes are always made in cricket and the board and selectors must have taken decisions after much thought and I will be there to support Hafeez," said Misbah.
The PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf said that Misbah was consulted before sacking him as the T20 skipper.
"Misbah has been a great leader and will remain captain for the one-days and Tests but, after consulting Misbah, we decided to appoint Hafeez as new captain for Twenty20," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 told the media reporters.
The two T20 Internationals between Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will be played at Hambantota on June 1 and 3.
