Hi Folks,

Hands up, I roll my own cigs at a rate of about 6 per day.

But. If this silly packaging thing comes into play, with all white packs with just "tobacco" on them, we all have a problem.

How do I pick my favourite brand?

Even if I could, the vendor would not know one from 'tother.

Supposing we did that with, say breakfast cereal.

A row of white boxes with "cereal" printed on them.

Things are again going a tad daft again, would you agree ?

Bob

  2. Generic packaging was very popular in the US back in the 70's. Yes, there were rows and rows of plain white boxes labelled "corn flakes" etc., the idea being that the products were cheaper. It didn't fly, and they stopped doing it, because the middlemen wanted their juicy salaries.

Nowadays, here in Europe, we have places like LIDL, Aldi and Dia, where they  have their own brand of whatever and we aren't told where it comes from. It just says "produce of the European Union." In point of fact, they are often B-grade products packaged at the same plants as name brands...cheaper and slightly lower quality.
