I am moving to Australia and planning on bringing my dog with me. I came across some information that sated the following:Breeds: Under the legislation of the Australian Customs Service (ACS) dogs of the following pure breeds are not eligible for importation into Australia.

• dogo Argentino

• fila Brazileiro

• Japanese tosa

• Pit bull terrier or American pit bull

• Presa Canario

IS IT TRUE THAT I CANNOT BRING HER?!??!? ANY WAYS AROUND THIS??

  1. Check as American Staffordshire is not exactly an American pitbull. I have an American Staffy cross and do not view her as a pit bull at all. The only way to know for sure is to check with the authorities.

Yes we do have that breed available so would be odd that importation of the breed is not allowed, though possible. Do check though.

  2. no

  3. the breeds you mentioned are considered dangerous and will not be permitted to Australia under any circumstance

email customs and enquire if your dog is considered a pit bull, are they the same as stafforshire?

    information@customs.gov.au

  4. As long as you have papers to prove that your dog is a pure bred American staffy,I don't see why you couldn't  bring your staffy with you.I have a American staffy and an English staffy.

They are a popular breed of dog here.

  5. I think you said in another question that your dog is a cross breed, so in any case, the restriction on pure bred American Pit bulls wouldn't apply.

The fact is though that American Staffordshires and American Pit Bulls are different breeds and Staffies are not banned.

If you're worried that she may be turned away when she arrives, why not contact the AKC or perhaps the Staffordshire Terrier Club of America and get some sort of certification that she isn't a Pit Bull.
