I have been trying to listen to music, watch stuff on my laptop but I get the message that there is no audio device on my laptop. Is this something that I have to buy? It's an IBM Thinkpad T60 from 2005/2006..Got it for free from a friend's dad..It does make a beep sound sometimes when I make typos..Not all the time though which is confusing.. Please help! Is there a setting that I can change to make the sound work or is there some sort of external audio device that I need to buy?

Thanks...

  1. It is far more complicated than you think, but it is solvable...

YOU GOT IT FROM A FRIEND'S DAD????? ... Interesting...

  2. The audio driver may not be installed.  You can use Thinkvantage system updates to update and install all missing drivers.  If that is gone... would be under All Programs, ThinkVantage, System updates... you can download it from Lenovo's website.

If it doesn't install, then it may of developed a defect.  You can also use the Lenovo website to see if it still has warranty and Lenovo will fix it free if  it does.

  3. Sounds like your audio driver is not installed.  Download it from IBM

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...

Installing this should solve the problem.

  4. The Audio Driver for your computer could be uninstall previously, its possible if the previous owner has the notebook restore to factory default prior to passing the notebook to you, I had a similar encounter with my Thinkpad T41.

Your ThinkPad T60 should have an 'IBM Tools' or 'Driver folder' located in the C: drive, mine is located at 'Driver' folder in C:\Driver\WIN\Audio. Do a search in your C: drive & you should find it there.

(IBM/Lenovo has included in all the necessary drivers for you to get started after a factory reset).

I believe yours should be similar since IBM/Lenovo has do away with the recovery CD long time ago.

Once you located the folder, double click on the setup.exe & the system will self install the audio driver into the system.

Another alternative method is to go the lenovo website & download the audio driver, you will need a bit of details (model & etc) before you can get to the correct driver.

Hope the above help to solve your problem

    regards
