Question:

No backlight on my Sony Vaio laptop?

I turned it off normally, and for hours now every time I turn it on there's no backlight and I can only just faintly make-out the screen. Everything seems to be loading normally, it's just there's no backlight. I can't understand why this could be. I haven't dropped it or anything. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I'm running Windows Vista.

Thanks

  1. back light is a tube, like a florescent bulb.

  2. There are any number of reasons the backlight can fail.  You can confirm that it is a hardware not software problem by connecting an external monitor and making sure the display is correct.  The backlight can be replaced but it is not easy to do it yourself, I would recommend taking it to a specialist but do not let them convince you that you need to replace the screen (much more expensive).  Shop around but make sure it is somewhere you can take and collect.  I would not advise sending away for repair unless absollutely necessary.

  3. Well it does sound like the back light. Sounds like it is failing any number of things could have caused it power surge defective part to begin with who knows. But if you are under warranty i would get it replaced.
