  1. You might find the problem lies with the SPEAKER SETTINGS in your receiver.  If your speakers are set to "LARGE", and your CENTER speaker isn't as big as your other speakers, you won't hear much bass.  Center speakers are usually small in size, but they shouldn't be, as they are responsible for 70% of the sound during a movie.

If you set all of your speakers to "SMALL", regardless of how big they are, then you'll start HEARING bass frequencies when the vocals of the movie soundtrack are playing.  Changing the speaker settings to "small" will improve the overall performance of ANY home theater by allowing all your receiver's power to be focused the on MIDs and HIGHs.

In addition to that, make sure the sub woofer CROSSOVER frequency in your receiver matches the one on your sub.  You don't want overlapping frequencies or gaping holes, either.  And don't set them any higher than 100Hz.  This keeps the bass "OMNI-DIRECTIONAL".  Your sub plays 20Hz to 100Hz and your speakers play 100Hz to 20,000Hz.

One other way to fix your "low-bass center speaker" would be to supplant it with a speaker a bit more similar to your 2 front speakers.  Most movie soundtracks are mixed in the studio on 5 (or 6) identical speakers.  In turn, most movies sound better when they're played back on 5 (or 6) identical speakers.

  2. not really, the point of the centre speaker is for voice's or mid range frequencies and up. the bass normally goes to the two front speakers and or sub woofer

  3. A/V Truths gave a great answer.

Setting the center to "SMALL" tells the receiver to send bass to the sub.

You might also try to put small feet under the center speaker as just sitting it on a shelf can couple it to the shelf and muddy the sound.  Pink rubber erasers work, rubber door wedges also work and give some tilt.
