Question:

No career at age 25 and depressed

I'm 25 and have tried nearly every "job" under the stars. Have no idea what I'd like to do. I already feel I've missed the boat, that I'm too old to go back to school because of bills, trying to save for a future, and so on. I hate my current job in administration. How can I decide on a career and find the funding for school?

  1. Holy moley, if I could be 25 again...  I feel I could do ANYTHING!

Even if it takes several years, by all means go back to school.  You have more time than you could possibly imagine.  You're not lacking in time, you're lacking in courage and ideas.

Think of this...  "What would I do if I knew I could not fail?"

That's your answer in a nutshell.  Try finding a career councilor. You CAN do it.  You just really really really have to believe in yourself.  Imagine still doing the same old stuff you hate 10 years from now.  You need also to find someone who can encourage you and make you understand that it's NOT too late.

  2. You are never to old to go to school. Go to community college at night if you have too. A BS or BA degree will open all kinda doors 4 you. Ask another question on ask about scholarships/ grants to apply for.

Get the book, Go put your strengths to work. The whole concept is finding your strengths, which are the things that energize you, make you feel good when you are doing them.

    Good luck

  3. Heck, I'm almost 46 and my career was stalled for the last 5-6 years.  Finally a new opportunity opened up and I grabbed it.  You are never to old to go back to school.  But first, I would seek the assistance of a career coach who can help you create a 5-10+ year career path through personality and assessment tests.  Hopefully a career coach can point you in the right direction.

    Good Luck!
