No contracts for Reliever Peter Moylan and Infielder Brooks Conrad by Atlanta Braves -MLB Update
It was certainly a shock for many fans and players around the league when rumours spread that Atlanta would not be tendering any contracts to their reliever, Peter Moylan, and infielder, Brooks Conrad, for the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball (MLB) regular
season, but imagine the thought of actually having it announced.
The Atlanta Braves announced that they would not be offering any deals to the two players on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, adding that they want a better shortstop than Brooks Conrad in order to backup their rookie, Tyler Pastornicky.
“It was a little bit of a shock because I had no indication of what they were thinking [until that call],” said Conrad, who didn’t realize his job was in jeopardy when he left Atlanta after the season.
The Braves decision will now make Conrad and Moylan free agents, who have three and six years of experience with Atlanta respectively, at a time when most teams are winding up their 2011 MLB offseason business by concluding trades and signings.
Despite being saddened by the news, Conrad added that he had a great time with a great organisation which he would have loved to stayed with.
“It’s little bit of bad news,” Conrad added. “Just because of way I feel about the city, the fans, the support I got there. Just an awesome organization. It was privilege to be part of, day in and day out. I have a little bit of a heavy heart, but it’s just
part of the business.”
Moylan, a 31-year-old from Lesmurdie, Australia, has a total of five years of professional baseball experience and has played in 80 plus games over that timeframe. Last season, he was limited to only appearing in 13 games due to a back surgery he required
followed by another surgery for a torn rotator cuff and labrum, which could be the reasons to seriously hinder his addition on another team.
Conrad on the other hand hit a .223 and four home runs along with 13 RBIs last season which could put him in a better position to be signed on by another team soon.
