No decision yet for Cardinals' quarterback Kevin Kolb, says coach Ken Whisenhunt – NFL News
Arizona Cardinals’ coach Ken Whisenhunt on Monday said that the team management is not going to make a decision regarding the team’s regular quarterback as long as Kevin Kolb is injured.
Kolb was drafted by Eagles in the 2007 NFL Draft and was traded to Cardinals in July 2011. He is a regular starter, but missed the last two games owing to a turf toe injury he received against Baltimore Ravens in the eighth week of the National Football League current season.
Sadly, it was his right foot that was hurt, forcing him to stay out of the field for the rest of the match. He was unable to participate in the victories against St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles in the week nine and 10 respectively.
He was replaced by John Skelton who has 537 yards and four touchdowns after two matches. Skelton is going to start for Cardinals as long as Kolb is injured, but it will be interesting to see who makes it to the starting line-up after Kolb’s recovery. When coach Whisenhunt was asked the same question, he responded by saying that no decision has been made yet.
"I know that you're going to try to ask this question a bunch of times," the coach. "I understand that. I understand the point of discussion. Where we are right now, it doesn't matter. Until we get Kevin back out there and practicing and we can assess where he is after having missed a couple of weeks, you can't even talk about that, to be honest with you."
Cardinals selected Skelton in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Since then he is playing as a backup quarterback and has never been able to become a regular starter. He admitted that Kolb was a much better player than him, and hoped that one day he would also be playing as a starter. He further said that Kevin is desperate to recover and get back on the field.
"He wants to be out there just as bad as anyone,” Skelton said about Kolb in an interview on Monday. “I’m sure if Kevin's healthy, he'll be able to go.”
With three victories and six defeats, Cardinals are currently ranked 23rd in the league table and hold third spot in the National Football Conference West Division. They are going to face their division leader-board San Francisco 49ers this weekend.
