Question:

No dial tone - driver or hardware problem?

Recently, I formatted my hard drive and installed windows 98. (I was previously using 95.) My modem, which had worked fine under 95, no longer detects a dial tone. I don't have the driver disk for the modem, but I have what appears to be the correct driver for it. (from two different sites, just to be sure the file isn't bad.) Interestingly, I've plugged another pc to the phone end of the modem, and can get internet off that PC! So I know that data is making it as a far as the phone jack in the modem. Any suggestions? Is this likely a driver problem? Normally I'd assume it's a hardware problem, but the modem worked fine just before installing windows 98, so I can't see any reason why the hardware would die at that specific moment. Thanks! Any advice at all is appreciated! Joe
