If the disk isn't discovered, it's usually a dead laser diode assembly. Only a qualified tech can successfully change that part and the cost of repair would exceed the value of the player in most cases.

Make sure you tried a disk that works in other players. And make sure you tried a disk that came from a major motion picture studio. Home made disks don't always work.
