No driver for Wester Digital Elements?

I can't seemed to get my WD Elements Portable Drive 320GB. I searched the official website, but no driver was found. Can somebody please help me find a link to a driver? My PC won't let me use it until I had the driver installed. My current OS is Windows XP, Service Pack 2. Thanks.

  1. Hmmm, XP SP2 should have that built-in.

    Try rebooting with it connected...

Did it work before?  If it's new it may not be initialized or may not be formatted.

My best suggestion is try calling Western Digital support and see if they can suggest a fix.

  2. Generally speaking you don’t need to install drivers for Western Digital hard drives, and that’s probably why you don’t find drivers at their web site. If you are connecting your portable drive to your computer via USB or a 1394 modem and using Windows, the drivers should be supplied by the OS. If you are using an e-SATA connection, no drivers are required.

    For a USB connection:

    Power down everything

Plug your device into your computer.

    Power up your device.

    Power up your computer

Windows will install the proper drivers when it boots. Everything should work.
