1st.Remove & clean battery cables.Even if they appear to have no oxidation on them.Jiggle them with your head-light switch in the on position.Watch to see if your head lights come on,or flash on.It will be an indicator or the source of your problem.

I had this problem years ago with an '84 700 shadow. The battery in mine was shot. It wouldn't even take a charge. It was about 4 years old. Motorcycle batteries are usually only good for 2 or 3 years. You might as well change the cables while you're in there. If the battery is bad the cables are probably corroded too.
