No follicles showing up in ultrasound?

My husband and I are going through a few tests because we have not been able to get pregnant...my blood work & his s***n analysis all came back normal. I had an ultrasound done on CD 12 and they said I had no follicles...the only thing they told me about this is that I wouldn't get pregnant this month. BUT...what does this mean? They said that I have to get another ultrasound done on day 12 next cycle and an endo biopsy on day 25...I don't know what the follicle thing is about...does this mean that some months you do have follicles and some you don't? Or does it mean that I may not have follicles? And what are the follicles?? I'm confused =[ Thanks!

  1. Follicles are the eggs before they're ready to pop out. I think they want to see your other ovary, which is why they want you again next month (ovulation is on one side this month and the opposite side next month and so on). Each month they mature during the first part of your cycle and normally by CD12 you can see them on the u/s.

Maybe you're making them fine on the other side. If you're not, they'll give you some medication (probably Clomid) to help make follicles. They'll monitor their growth and when they're around 20mm they either 'rupture' on their own (that's the posh word for Ovulation) or they trigger it for you with a shot.
