The former Olympique Lyonnais coach saw his side slump to an embarrassing (3-0) defeat at Stade Gerland, as OGC Nice failed to extend their undefeated streak in the Ligue 1
OGC Nice failed to meet expectations as a threatening side when they played against Olympique Lyonnais at the Stade Gerland. Les Aiglons were led by former Lyon coach, Claude Puel, who had a chance to settle the score with his former club. However, it didn’t
turn out to be the Frenchman’s day.
Nice were thrashed by Lyon in the Ligue 1 fixture as Lisandro Lopez, Anthony Reveillere and Bafetimbi Gomis scored for Les Gones. The defeat ends Les Aiglon’s eight-game unbeaten run, one that saw them rise to prominence as a difficult side to play against
in the league.
Puel believes that his side had the better of the chances early in the game, but they couldn’t take full advantage of them. The French outfit eventually paid a heavy price for that, as they were punished by Lyon’s attackers several times during the game.
"It was an unusual game because we could have been out of sight had we taken our chances.”
The French tactician is afraid to admit that Nice’s defence was exposed by the continuous counter-attacks by their opponents. The coach believes that his players played well. However, the defence was a bit disappointing. The 51-year-old stated:
“We failed to take advantage of some interesting situations in the first half. It is hard on the players because they played well at times but they just didn't defend well against Lyon's counter-attacks.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 coach acknowledged that his side failed to take advantage of their chances, for which they were eventually punished in the form of an embarrassing score-line. The coach believes that the reason Lyon won was because they took
their chances. He explained:
“We failed to put away any of the numerous chances we had. The score-line flatters them, but Lyon took their chances.”
The Cote d’Azur side are currently eighth at the table, trailing league leaders Paris-Saint Germain by 9 points.  Les Aiglons are set to feature in a Round-of-64 fixture of the Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 against FC Metz, after the winter break.
