I did not have insurence for a while and want to buy for a low cost. They all have preexisting condition clause. How can I get around this? I am in Pensilvania.

  1. You can't if you are purchasing an individual policy. Business policies work differently. If you had coverage under an old job, and then immediately had applied for coverage, you would have received a certificate evidencing that you had coverage, which you would have submitted to your new carrier. But, this isn't the case in the scenario you have described. Insurance carriers do underwrite new business, and if you have a medical condition, you will not be covered for it if you are getting an individual, personal plan. That's the nature of the beast. No doctor is going to bill you under a different code. That is fraud, punishable by jail time and a Doctor can lose his license. You got some very poor advice on this one.

  2. If your family has a low income you can go to the county hospital and apply for their health care program, with little cost to you...if you have enough money then look into physicians mutual, they are reasonable

  3. You probably won't be able to get around the pre-existing condition clause. In fact, if your condition is severe enough you may be declined insurance.

Work with a local independent agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can find a policy that will fit your situation and budget if one is available. Different companies will treat a condition differently. For example one company may decline you while another company will cover you except for the condition. Another company may cover your condition but charge an extra premium. The agent can talk with the underwriters to find out your options.

  4. If you don't make any claims during the exclusion period, usually 6 months to maybe as much as 2 years, you won't have a problem with reimbursement for medical care.  Unfortunately, if you expect to be treated for a preexisting condition, they probably won't pay and I know of no way to get around them other than asking your doctor to bill treatment under a non-preexisting billing code.
