No high targets for Chong Wei in India Open, says national coach Seu Bock – Badminton News
National Singles coach Tey Seu Bock has no intentions to set high targets for Malaysian maestro Lee Chong Wei in Yonex Sunrise India Open which will be in full swing from April 24, 2012.
Injury plagued Chong Wei is looking to make come back after short absence from the arena and Indian event will be a test call for defending Champion as it is going to be the last tournament before Olympic qualification period ends in May.
However, the coach Seu Bock says they do not want him to race for the crown rather he should be thinking to get in shape before the 2012 London Olympics. He also stated that there will be no pressure on Chong Wei as the main purpose to field him is to analyse
his progress by giving him some world class competition.
Seu Bock said, "The title is not the priority but he must get the feeling and enjoy playing in a competition. There is no pressure on him as he has already qualified for the Olympics and should maintain his World No 1 position."
There is no danger to World Number one shuttler’s status in world rankings even if he fails to defend his title as his nearest competitor is World Number two Lin Dan of China who stands almost three thousand points behind Chong Wei.
Seu Bock stated that the only reason to send him to India is to check whether present training strategy is working or there is need for any modification. The coach also added that they will be giving special attention to his performance after shoulder injury.
He said, "Chong Wei went through two weeks of tough training as he needed to be prepared for the India Open. It is his first tournament and we want to see how well he can adapt to competition again."
However, the badminton ace has got a relatively easy draw in the India Open and he will not find any big hurdle in his race for glory.
According to draws, Chong Wei will open his marathon against the Taipei shuttler Hsueh Hsuan Yi and if he proceeds he will meet the winner of the contest between the Indian campaigner Ajay Jayaram and Rajiv Ouseph from England.
The other prominent shuttlers of the event are the Dane Peter Gade, China’s Chen Jin and former World and Olympic Champion Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia.
