No hope for Pakistani players to get dues from Indian Cricket League (ICL)
A bizarre development in the world of cricket has revealed that the Pakistan players, who took part in the Indian Cricket League (ICL), have not been paid all their dues by the organizers of the rebel league, which is now defunct.
According to details, the league owes dues worth $2 million to the Pakistanis.
Famous names from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 joined the rebel league, which was not sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the cricket Boards of member countries.
Nevertheless, many players from all over the cricketing world decided to join the league because at that time it was the only league offering lucrative contracts to international cricketers as it predated the Indian Premier League (IPL).
From Pakistan the organizers of the ICL succeeding in attracting 19 players that included some famous names like the legendary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383, middle order batsman, Mohammad Yousuf, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, Imran Farhat, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Imran Nazir.
While Pakistan’s former wicketkeeper, Moin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, coached the team that consisted of Pakistani players called “The Lahore Badshahs”.
Since this was not recognized by ICC and country Boards, it was decided to ban any player, who would join the unofficial league.
Nevertheless, numerous players joined it anyway putting their international careers on the line. The players were banned by their respective Boards.
However, after the dissolution of the ICL member Boards gradually lifted the bans on the cricketers.
Speaking on the matter, Moin complained that the league had failed in paying the outstanding dues of the Pakistani players even after 2 years of its end.
He said, “None of the officials are picking up the phone now, we’ve been trying them for months. We’ve been paid three-fourth of the entire payment we were owed but they still owe us for last season. Not just the players, but support staff and other officials;
we’re owed $2.2 million”.
Moin revealed that it wasn’t just the Pakistanis, who were still waiting for the dues to be paid, in fact the league organizers had failed to pay many players from other countries as well.
“It’s not just us. Millions of dollars are owed to players from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. We’ve been in constant contact with Tim May but we’ve been told now that a legal process could be very lengthy, expensive and not guarantee that we get our
money”, he reiterated.
The league, which was owned by the ZEE group of companies, soon found it difficult to carry on with its venture in the game of cricket and ultimately came to its demise after organizing its last season in 2008-09.
Due to the currently strained diplomatic relations between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Pakistan, it seems even less likely that the players would be paid their dues. For now there seems to be no other choice for the players to keep contacting the ICL organizers in a bid to
convince them to pay the dues.
