Question:

No hope for the breed ??

I am starting to see literally no hope for pit bulls in the future.I am literally starting to give up on the breed sadly.

If the majority of the world weren't so ignorant now and if people weren't breeding them like crazy, there would still be hope for me. But for me, until America realizes it's bad breeding that causes bad temperment and irresponsible dog ownership, I see very little hope for the future. Or worse, the breed gets taken out of society.

Sadly, another pit bull attacked again in the Spartanburg area and now Im starting to think it's bad breeding that's causing faulty temperments. It's made me realize that the pits of today are not like the pits of yesterday. The pits of yesterday were seen as "great family dogs" and wonderful family pets, now they are known to be killers and killing machines.. I guess things change..

I know some people argue that if they are banned, bigger dogs such as Canary dogs, Filas and other Mollosser breeds will take the scene, but they will never be as popular as pits are now.

Do you see hope for APBT's ?

  1. Mikey says sometimes pitbulls eat babies...............

  2. I hope that through education the APBT will have a chance in the future. I won't give up on teaching the future the truth (my peers).

  3. yes there is hope if everyone that loves the breed and bands together showing that the breed is not a time bomb it will recover

  4. if you think like that the no hope thing there wont be any. you have to stand up for what you belive. no madder how old or young you are im 14 and i have protesed animal testing humain societys that put dogs down after 7days and many more you have to keep hope that one day man kind will relise what they are doing and stop i know thats a lot to say but its the only way to keep pitt-bulls and other " aressive" dogs alive. Take Ceasor Malan(my hero) he has over 10 pitt-bulls in one place and no attaks there so there is hope there will always be hope.

  5. I certainly hope so...I live in a fairly ignorant part of the country.  I have heard stories of pits being stolen and abused or killed.

I think they are one of the top breeds...and I would love to have one, but honestly I'm afraid to.  Not because of the breed--I am afraid of what would happen to my beloved dog if I were to get one.  Not to mention it's impossible to rent here with a so-called "aggressive breed".

I would like to be proactive in the fight for this breed--problem is, I don't know where to start?

  6. I do see hope for them.  As long as there are good people out there (like you) that promote what great dogs they can be.  I know they get a lot of bad press.  Problem is, you never see the good press when there is a good story about a pitt.  It's just terrible with the news, they only tell you the bad things, never the good stuff (on just about any subject).

Please don't lose faith.  There are many of us out here that know how wonderful they can be.

  7. Last night, walking the dogs,I met the sweetest most affectionate pbt. There are several apbt that are regulars where we walk but this was an exceptional dog and quite the ambassador for the breed

  8. I always see hope for the breed. I too once thought about giving up on the breed but then I realized that if I'm not going to fight for them then who is? There are more pit bull haters then there are lovers and slowly people are stating to loose hope in the breed, the same thing was present when rotties and shepherds were the "bad dogs" Both breeds came to be known as loving dogs again although there still are a few haters of those breeds it's not like it once was.I only hope that people will see that the breed is not to blame

  9. That is a very good question. Pit's have been getting a pretty bad name because of poor breeding and irresponsible owners making them fight for sick entertainment. Michael Vick sure did a lot of damage that wasn't needed in the first place. Perhaps if there was more positive information about the breed, they would not be getting the bad reputation they are getting currently. And put strict restrictions on dog fighting, and irresponsible owners. They should be charged with a felony.

  10. I agree with everything already said.

I owned a GSD when there was a witch-hunt on them and Dobermans and Rottweilers a few years ago.

Happily that's now forgotten as Pitbulls and Staffies have taken their place as the latest tough guy accessory.

It's always the innocent exploited animal that suffers.

  11. i think that there is hope. Cause im am APBT owner and i have done my research and allot people do think of the stereotype when comes to pit bulls. But I have met and talk to many people that love pit bulls. So i think that there is hope.  I wish that i could do more for the breed just dont know about how to do that

  12. There has to be. If enough ppl promote the good. And more take a stand against the bsl's and all.

We need to me more pro-active. We (ppl who can raise dogs right) get out more with our 'pits' and do stuff publically (spelling error I know) and more people can see the good side of the breeds.

And we need to get a handle on the people who are irresponsible with their dogs and if we see someone doing wrong (or appearing to) we need to expose them more. Like the neighbor who hits his dogs, or the people who tease others dogs (like my neighbor who stands in front of my gate with her minpins while my dogs go bezerk then runs away when she sees us come outside) and confront them about it

I know a lot of ppl say their dogs are great and we need to make a stand...but most don't take a stand

And we need to change that

And post truths and myths about the breeds in public places

Hope is what makes things happens. Even when it seems impossible

Like slavery (dramatic example) but it seemed hopeless to them

    But we eventually stopped it

  13. I think people just need to fully research the breed and understand that they need careful handling and alot of control. People just look at the dog and think, 'oh yeah, Lets get one of them, their tough' and theydon't fully understand the breed. Lets face it, ANY dog can be vicious and attack people, its just some breeds get bad reputations because of people. I feel sorry for the dogs because its not their fault, its the people!! If people start realising what they are labelling these dogs are and start understanding breeds and researching before deciding to bring a dog into the home, there may be hope. If not, im not so sure....email me if you want to discuss anything else dog! =] x

  14. Yes!  I have great hope for APBT's!  Because of the adverse publicity and focus of the media on any bite case suggesting the breed is involved, there have been more and more people coming forward to show others what an APBT is like when properly trained.

They are being used in Search and Rescue, as police dogs, therapy dogs, and companion dogs.  I'd like to see more happen to the people that fight them and breed them indiscriminately.

They only have us to advocate for them!

  15. APBTs will not disappear.  More public officials and ordinary citizens are realizing that breed specific legislation does not solve problems.  They are also learning that pits are no more dangerous to people than other breeds.  The best hope for pits is for owners to socialize their dogs by exposing them to as many people as possible and training those dogs in obedience.  It would be especially good for owners of APBTs to train their dogs for weight pulling and to hold competitions in high visibility locations.  Weight pulling is a good spectator sport and curious people will come to watch.  They will be exposed to many well behaved pit bulls and learn that fighting is not the only sport they can participate in.  Make it an IWPA pull so it will be open to all breeds and mutts.  There is no need to exclude non APBTs.
