This isn't the first time but last night one of my adorable lionheads I have no idea why.....I woke up and he was floating (dead). It makes no sense to me how goldfish can live in bowls for years and mine in a 20 gallon can't even live for 17 days! I use water conditioner and the last time I cleaned my tank (saturday) I only took out 25 percent!! I also only feed once a day and their diet has lots of variety! please help I want my other one to live for as long as he can!

  1. Did you call the place you got them from and asked them this? They could help. You sound like you did eerything right, it couldve just got sick :(.

The most dependable fish in the world are goldfishhh :). I'd get those if you want long lasting fish...

  2. Some fish die really fast when you get them, and some live for a long time.

    It just happens.

  3. some fish becase of small tanks or it died because someone tuched it.the oil from your fingers can kill it.

  4. Perhaps the temperature?  You have to keep their water at room temperature.  Any sudden changes will probably kill them.

  5. are all your other levels in range?  ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and salinity are important to keep an eye on

also, do you have any air stones?  they help keep the water circulating more and adds more oxygen to the water

  6. maybe feed them more?..

im not sure, but try feeding more, look at the feeding instructions that probably why the lionhead died.

  7. Did you add too much water conditioner? Giving them the wrong food? Did you say that the lionheads are living in the same tank, maybe that is the problem. Some fish, like the beta fish, can not live with another fish in the same tank. They kill each other.

  8. It sounds to me like you are experiencing "New Tank Syndrome" with your fish.  They are dying because your tank is not cycled and the fish are suffering through the ammonia and nitrite spikes of a cycling tank and are not hardy enough to survive it.  This is a common problem for people who are new to owning fish and tanks.  People who keep goldfish in bowls often escape the problem by cleaning out the whole bowl so often that it never even gets a chance to start to cycle.  Read these links on New Tank Syndrome and the Nitrogen Cycle in an aquarium and you will understand.  Good luck with your other fish.
