No instant messaging software works?

Question

Hi, well as the title says none of the instant messaging software i download works, including aim, trillian, miranda im, or pidgin im.

I first experienced the problem on ubuntu using pidgin, i thought it was either ubuntu or pidgin. Now that i switched back to XP, same problem.

Uninstall the software and then reinstall it. Also, you can Restore your computer to an earlier date and then install AIM

If you're having this problem with multiple operating systems and/or computers, the problem isn't your computer unless you can't get to the internet at all - in that case it's probably your network card.  It sounds like more of a blocked port maybe - that's my first thought.  If you're at work or some other 'shared network' type of network (dorm rooms would be a good example) then I'd get with the admins of the network if you think they'd open up a port.  You can also try a proxy server to get around blocked ports.
