No intention to issue Shoaib Malik a show cause notice: PCB – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board has no intention to issue http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 a show cause notice, after the 30-year-old’s recent participation in an Indian domestic club tournament in New Delhi.
“We have not issued any notice to Malik to explain his position nor do we intend to do so in future as he has gone to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on a private visit and played in just a club match,” said a PCB board official.
Malik’s recent foray into domestic cricket tournaments in India has attracted the attention of both the media, and BCCI board officials. Following the completion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 on June 5, and
played a single match for the Hargopal CC at the Modern School (Barakhamba Road) ground, as a part of the Lala Raghubir Hot Weather (40-over) one day tournament, during which he scored 26 runs.
However, when the matter was brought to the attention of the BCCI, officials claimed that the board had not been informed about Malik’s participation in the event, going on to add that it went against the board’s rules, which did not permit foreign cricketers
to play in any Indian domestic tournaments except for the Indian Premier League.
S K Bansal, secretary of the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA), claimed that his organisation had not been aware of any such rule, and therefore had deemed it unnecessary to inform the BCCI about Malik’s participation. He added that the Pakistani
cricketer had also participated in a similar tournament last year, and no permission had been obtained then.
The PCB has admitted that while they were unaware of Malik’s participation in the event, and planned to question him about it on his return to Pakistan (owing to the fact that he is a contracted player), they did not consider it an offence on his part.
“The event wasn’t held under the BCCI’s umbrella,” an official from the PCB pointed out. “Participation in an ordinary event is not an offence. The permission is required for sanctioned and major leagues or tournaments. We haven’t received any message from
the BCCI yet.”
