Question:

No interview, not even a phone call and I've got the job - Is this a scam?

I applied for a job over a week ago via e-mail after seeing the job vacancy posted on the Job centre website.

The day after, I received a reply by e-mail from them stating that they would like to discuss the job with me in more detail and that I should phone them as soon as possible. I didn't phone them.

Now, 10 days later, I received another e-mail from them and this is what it said:

"You have been selected for the position & I would like to speak with you to discuss this vacancy in more detail."

The general wording of the e-mail is similar apart from the part that says "You have been selected for the position".

Am I supposed to think that I got the job without even contacting them or having an interview? This sounds really silly - please enlighten me!

Plus, I've looked at the website and it doesn't seem legitimate - http://www.kccomputerservices.co.uk/index.html

Also, I typed in the phone number they provided on google and the company name on Yell.com, and nothing came up. There is literally no information about them on the internet!

So what are the chances this is a scam?

  1. Looks like a scam to me.

  2. Almost anyone can place an add with the jobcentre these days. Unfortunately most of the jobs they advertise are from agencies. This is probably a scam and I wonder why the jobcentre is still operating when most companies can either advertise directly or through one of these useless agencies.  I can guarantee you that if you do complain to the jobcentre no action will be taken and this same company will pop up somewhere again in the near future - Definitely sounds dodgy.

  3. that is a scam! look at their products section and retailers! the olny one with any info is contact us!

  4. It can be a phone scam, where, when u call u get robbed, because of high charges. So, better ask details on email.

  5. It's a website done on the cheap for someone, I would guess, that is just starting a business. They've used a bought web page to try and get themselves going.

As long as you don't end up sending any money, then why not follow through. just be sensible about what information you give out.

To me it's no different than any classified ad you'd see in a paper for "work at home"..

  6. Stay well clear of this!!

btw, well done for thinking straight. Typoing a company's phone number into google is a very good trick to check if it's legitimate, I've been doing it for ages.

  7. Looks dodgy to me, there's nothing else on their website apart from that Job Vacancy.

  8. I wouldn't touch this with the proverbial barge pole, sounds very suspicious.

  9. if it sounds like a scam and reads like a scam, it's probably a scam.  and would you really want to go to a job without ever seeing the place, the people you'd work with or the manager?  i'd be a bit scared of this situation.  i'd suggest you stear clear of this.

  10. Total scam. If you click on the link for their "sister website and more info". It wants you to send 25.00 for a one time training fee. Anyone that want money to give you a job is a SCAM!!

  11. Are they looking for anybody or just women?  You could find yourself in some foreign country, sold as a s*x slave for pennies.  No reputable company would hire you without an interview unless they were up to something illegal.  You are right to be suspicious.

  12. phone the jobcentre and ask them

  13. It is 100% a scam.  DO NOT give them any of your personal information.  Save the job posting and print a copy of it for back up.  Report it to the authority.
