No luring response by New York Jets to President Obama’s comments – NFL News
It seems that the guys at New York Jets do not have much time to be very vocal about many things off the field.
This even includes the comments made by President of the United States Barack Obama. After the comments given by the President on Thursday, media was anticipating a buzz from head coach Rex Ryan, who is generally very vocal.
Instead, he adopted a very close-mouthed stance throughout his interview after the practice session on Friday, August 03, 2012. He said:
"I'll say this, I respect President Obama and I respect the fact that this is his opinion. That's it, I'm not taking the layup and all that jazz. That's it."
President Obama previously said that he did not like having a controversy for the quarterback position at the start of the season.
He continued and said that the starting quarterback Mark Sanchez is not in a condition right now to play like Tom Brady.
Ryan has previously given some exciting comments about the Jets’ quarterback debate. It was not expected that Ryan would give such brief comment on the President's remarks.
Interestingly, many of Jets players excused to comment on the matter, even saying that they did not hear what the President had said.
Other players who gave response to the President’s comments have a similar stance to their coach that Jets do not have any problem at the quarterback position.
Jets’ left guard Matt Slauson gave the most straight forward comment by saying that the President does not play football for Jets.
Wide receiver Patrick Turner gave a mixed reaction and said:
"Shout out to Obama -- I'm behind him 100 percent, but I think this will be the first time a two-quarterback system will work.”
Coach Ryan has said recently that backup quarterback Tim Tebow will play at a variety of positions. While reiterating that Sanchez has the capabilities to excel as a starter, Ryan said:
"We have as clear-cut a starting quarterback as other teams. Mark Sanchez is our starting quarterback, but we have an athlete and a special talent in Tim Tebow that allows us to do different things that maybe other teams don't have.”
