  1. I only hate it when they crawl or jump on me and then disappear.  It "bugs" the h**l out of me when I don't know where they went.

  2. I really don't mind the insects (or the toads) but I am always fearful about getting stung by the bumble bees that are going from flower to flower doing their thing. I usually wait till late in the day when hopefully they have left the garden area.

  3. Oh boy, gardening in the Southwest is a lot of fun because we get so many creepy crawlies.  I've seen it all, from scorpions and tarantulas to giant spiders, grasshoppers, caterpillars and beetles.  This morning I picked off a tomato hornworm...really disgusting.  And yesterday I removed 12 corn borers from three corn stalks and was so mad to have lost more sweet corn.

I actually hate the ants the most because they bite.  This morning while pulling weeds I stepped on a small ant mound.  Very tiny ants were around this mound but these were ants with attitudes.  My right ankle quickly broke out in a rash and the rash was soon all over my body: my groin, my pits and my arms and back.  ARGH!!!

  4. bugs don't bother me as much as those big toads that lurk under the weeds.  You only have to grab them once to experience the shivers and shrieking!

  5. Oh...  an exoskeleton-hating bigot, eh?  :-)

Yes, I can honestly say that I don't mind the insects, in fact, I like most everything except for yellow jackets.   But even then I avoid killing them.

Just because they're not cute and fuzzy like a kitten or a puppy, they're still little animals that deserve to live, even if for no other purpose than to become some bird's dinner.

  6. I love the insects. They pollinate the flowers, they break down organic matter, they are an essential part of every ecosystem, and a sign that your garden is healthy. You really need to get over this childish aversion of yours. They are fascinating creatures. Love the insects, embrace the insects, they are your friends.

  7. The only ones that bother me are the huge spiders. It never fails, just when I reach into the depths of the unknown, they appear. I don't mind all of the others but the spiders can disappear forever. I went to pick a tomatoe the other day and suprise..spider right next to my hand.
