No more World Tour races for Jakob Fuglsang following his plans to leave Team RadioShack-Nissan
Jakob Fuglsang of Team RadioShack-Nissan was disappointed after he was left out by the final team’s squad for the Tour de France 2012.
The cyclist briefed in an interview that the Luxembourg based team will not be his first choice for the 2013 season.
He has already started the negotiations with Bjarne Riis of Team Saxo Bank and Team RadioShack-Nissan Manager Johan Bruyneel does not seem to like that.
It has been reported that Team RadioShack-Nissan has decided to deprive the cyclist from participating in all the coming World Tour races.
Jakob has missed most of the races in the first half of the season and has not earned much World Tour points.
His only victories 2012 include the first place finish at the National Time Trial Championships, an overall victory at the Tour de Luxembourg and both the events does not earn him any World Tour points.
The Danish National Champion is in desperate need of the UCI points which will help him securing a better contract for the 2013 season.
Points earned by a cyclist in a year transfers to the next team in case he switches to a new team.
Even if Fuglsang claims any points this year, they will be of no use for Team RadioShack-Nissan which is the main reason why the management has decided to prevent him from riding any World Tour races this year.
“Bruyneel simply will not give me the chance to score points the rest of the year,” Jakob told ekstrabladet.dk.
“I asked him directly if it also means I don't ride the Vuelta a Espana, and he confirmed it”.
“It is sad that RadioShack thinking more on points than on results”.
“Good results in WorldTour races are important for the team, and WorldTour points are highly important for me because they help to keep my market value,” he said.
“I am disappointed that I will be punished in this way.”
Fuglsang was named to lead the team at the Giro d’Italia but he abandoned the event because of his fitness issues.
He will now be seen in action at the Osterreich Rundfahrt scheduled this Sunday and he is keen to give his best for all the remaining races of the year.
