What do you guys think about this? I think it's insane. I was homeschooled up to fifth grade, and I'm an honors student now. All the things that's going on in public school, I don't think it's right to make kids go there, or make their parents pay a ton of money for private school.

  1. Your statement / question is inaccurate.

The CA court has decided to re-hear the case.  This is a very unusual move and probably signals that the earlier decision will be vacated / reversed (not sure which is the correct term).

The immediate result of this re-hearing is that the original court decision is moot - as if it had never happened - at least until the rehearing is complete.

  2. You don't have your facts straight. First off California is not trying to make homeschool illegal.

There was case against a homeschooling family in Los Angeles and it started out as a child abuse case and had nothing to do with homeschooling until it got into that and the judge is clearly against homeschooling.

The trial is going to be reheard in June so we will know then whether or not they can pass a ruling that all parents will be required to have their Teaching Credentials to homeschool in the Private home.

I doubt very seriously this will pass. Our good Governor of California is against this ruling and also there are many many homeschooling groups that have signed petitions to fight this. I am most certain this case will be thrown out and there will be no Law made for this.

You should take the time to do your research before posting.

  3. I don't watch the news so I hadn't heard there was any question as to the legality of homeschooling in California.  My oldest daughter is still 4.  We plan to open a private school at home in order to follow the "law" for homeschooling.

  4. I knew one of us should have posted an update.  :)

Homeschooling has not been declared illegal in California.  An Appeals court made a stupid, nonsensical ruling based on zero information.  There has been such a firestorm of controversy, including denunciations by the governor and the superintendent of public instruction,  that the court decided to revisit its decision.

  5. I think you should move to Utah.

  6. YSN is right.  The decision has be vacated and the case will be heard again.

Homeschooling is NOT illegal in California and won't be.

  7. I think it would be a terrible attack on the civil liberties of parents and children, if it were true.

However, there is still homeschooling in California as well as all other 49 United States.  And it isn't likely to change any time soon.

    :D

  8. Most people are refusing to understand this new proposal; it does not stop homeschooling at all, it merely wants to ensure the parents who homeschooling are qualified, just as teachers in regular schools have to be...it doesn't make sense for a parent who is not qualified to homeschool a child and this will help prevent that.

  9. I think its a judge that has the best interests of students, ie future citizens and taxpayers, at heart.   The requirement that there be a  certified teacher is reasonable in my opinion.    How can you teach a child to the 12th grade if you only finished a couple of years of JC or worse?

  10. It is crazy, the liberals are doing this because they are losing too much money to homeschooling as their public school is a failure!
