No names on Rugby jerseys?

i'm watching my first rugby game of this whole tournament only

for curiosity and that is the first thing i notice. this is a game where having names would be more effective in identifying players to the viewer. especially when they are doing line outs and scrums.

I've always wondered why footballers had to have their names on their back. I mean, if you're interested in the sport don't you know the players name?

I'll admit that football teams seem to have way more players than rugby teams so maybe that is a part of why.
