No offer from HBO over Hard Knocks says New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum - NFL News
HBO is still looking to secure a National Football League (NFL) team for its football reality television show “Hard Knocks” before training camps commence ahead of the 2012-13 season.
The popular show which has garnered high ratings throughout its running gives fans an inside look into a franchise’s preparations before the start of a new NFL season.
This year many franchises have already opted out of doing the show citing distractions in their preparations with the presence of television camera crews.
Last year the show did not take place due to the NFL lockout while before that the New York Jets featured and their participation gave the programme its highest ratings in history.
This year Jets owner, Woody Johnson, had expressed interest in allowing HBO to film their training camp once again but general manager, Mike Tannenbaum, and head coach, Rex Ryan have expressed reservations over doing the show.
On Thursday, Tannenbaum told ProFootballTalk Live during an interview that the Jets had not been approached by either the NFL or HBO in regards to Hard Knocks.
"(I)t has not been offered to us, so right now we're on the sidelines, and we don't know who's going to be asked at the end of the day,"
He continued further.
"But what I can say, Mike (Florio of PFT), is NFL Films, HBO Sports -- they all did a great job. It was a great experience for us, it was good for our organization. I think those organizations are real pros and it was a good experience for us."
This year with the Jets bringing in quarterback, Tim Tebow plus the drama surrounding the team’s players after last year’s public spats makes the Jets a great choice for the show.
Tannenbaum did not outright refuse to do the show and said that if an offer came in it will be considered by the team’s management.
“As we've said, if that was something that ever came down the pipe again, we would consider it, but that's not where we're at as of right now."
Hopefully the Jets will get an offer and they will agree to do the show as everyone wants to see how Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez interact during the training camp.
