Question:

No one is truly unique, do you agree?

All of our ideas are influenced by someone else, from reading a book, listening to a conversation, from the TV, something. So are we really and truly unique? Or are we just carbon copies with slight differences?

I'm not talking physically, I'm talking about our thoughts.

Agree or disagree, and reasons?

  1. ...i disagree, i rest my case...

edit:...my path in life is dictated how i choose to live...i enjoy the fruits of my labors and share with someone i love...though their be differences we choose to deal with them together...

    ...again, i disagree...

  2. i agree and disagree. i think that we all have unique experiences. no two people have had exactly the same experiences throughout their lives. but i also think that it is this uniqueness that makes us just like everybody else.

  3. Even in this state of life we have a uniqueness which is eternal regardless of our survival.

                                                   PERSONALITY

The term God always denotes personality, the potential personality of us all is centered in the personality of the Universal Father. Personality becomes real as we become real (Spirit). All that is of God returns to God even if the mortal chooses not to continue.

P.8 - §2 Reality is subject to universal expansion, personality to infinite diversification, and both are capable of well-nigh unlimited Deity co-ordination and eternal stabilization. While the metamorphic range of nonpersonal reality is definitely limited, we know of no limitations to the progressive evolution of personality realities.

P.9 - §1 Personality. The personality of mortal man is neither body, mind, nor spirit; neither is it the soul. Personality is the one changeless reality in an otherwise ever-changing creature experience; and it unifies all other associated factors of individuality. The personality is the unique bestowal which the Universal Father makes upon the living and associated energies of matter, mind, and spirit, and which survives with the survival of the morontial(a state of being beyound this life) soul.

  4. I disagree.  Not ALL of us are influenced like that.  Even if we are, we still have our own thoughts and opinions.  There may be people who are very similar, but there is always some differences.  Everyone's unique.

  5. Of course everyone is unique.

For every decision you make, you open up possibilities. Then your life evolves from those decisions.

It is the answer to "why did this happen to ___?"

  6. i disagree and agree with you, here is why... you are right about being carbon copies with slight difference that is why i agree with you . in that aspect.. now my disagreement is there is people few and far between that there thoughts are far from the carbon copies.( i can name one..stephen king, he don't copy from anyone else he creates what he wants. he might wright a book like every one else but what makes him different is his thoughts that is what make us go read or watch his movies....  there is others as well..

  7. No one is unique because everyone says they are.

  8. Different parts of us are the same as different people but on whole we are all unique.

  9. I think most of us are unique.  There are so many different ideas and ways of thinking about things, truly everybody is unique.

Your question reminds me of the movie "Harold and Maude" about a suicidal 18-year-old boy who meets an 80-year-old woman (played by Ruth Gordon).  In one scene, they are walking in the country, and see a field of daisies.  He comments that they are all alike, and she says, "Oh, quite the contrary!  There are all sorts of discernible differences, if you just take the time to look.  You see, I feel the trouble in the world is that people are this (she holds up one daisy) and they allow themselves to be treated like that (she waves to the field of daisies)."

  10. Every single one of us is completely unique and different to the next.

  11. I think everyone is unique.

  12. I disagree with your statement, everybody on earth are unique be-

cause nobody thinks, acts or talks exactly alike.  We're all different

with our own individual thoughts, likes and dislikes, and behavior

patterns.  If we weren't than our planet would be in a whole lot

worse shape than it is now.

  13. Totally agree.

People think they're being unique by dying their hair blue and getting tattoos and too many piercing to count.

When actually...EVERYONE is starting to look like that.

  14. you r right to say u r not physical.   u r spirit encased in a physical body.  u r unique.   1 of a kind.    hence different thumbprint / dna.

  15. We are truly unique.

Though humans naturally assimilate information from other sources IE television, music, books, other media- what makes us intelligent beings is the fact that we can elaborate on these thoughts, agree, disagree, denounce, prove otherwise and so on and so forth. Though many spiritualist and parapsychologists would like to say all human thought is interconnected, though we may have the same thoughts as someone else we will never have the same perspective or view on the same concept as another person.

A woman may take "legalizing euthanasia" differently than a man.

  16. Disagree!

While only some of us are capable of truly unique though, the combinations and relationships in which we hold the common

field of ideas are different enough to render the individual unique.

  17. I agree. Most people's thoughts and ideas are just a product of the culture they're in. I can imagine all the people who ever lived getting together in the afterlife. A frequent comment would be "Of course you think xyz because you lived in x country or y time period"

  18. By definition we are all unique since there is no one EXACTLY like us.  However we are not so different from each other that we are very unique at all.  Having said that - I do believe there have been some truly unique people in the world.  People whose talents, intelligence, and/or abilities are laudable if nothing else.

Thomas Edison, Mozart, Einstein, Tiger Woods, Mother Teresa - unique indeed!
