No one likely to trouble Manieree in Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Garnet Stakes at Naas
It is still unsure whether Chrysanthemum will show up after Saturday’s success at Cork. If the David Wachman-trained turns up, she will be the only one to be preferred over Manieree. But if she does not appear, it is going to a straight forward success for
John M. Oxx’s filly in Sunday’s Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Garnet Stakes at Naas.
After a few awful defeats, Chrysanthemum finally got it right yesterday. On Cork’s soft 1m½f, the filly performed magnificently to take a narrow victory over Barack. In the hands of Shane Foley, she raced in close 2nd until led a couple of furlongs
before the finishing line.
She was briefly headed by the runner-up, but a strong run on the rails helped her regain lead entering the final furlong. Owned by Michael Tabor & Mrs John Magnier & Derrick Smith, the daughter of Danehill Dancer did not make any mistake in the final stages,
and eventually secured the first prize by a head’s distance.
An outstanding win would have boosted up her confidence to a great extent. But one will have to wait and see whether she makes it to the final line-up today. The connections are yet to decide on giving her two back-to-back races.
Manieree, on the other hand, is looking for an opportunity to open this season’s account. She did a lot of goods in 2011, but has not yet performed up to the mark this year. Owned by Maxwell Morris, the daughter of Medicean suffered a couple of defeats at
Curragh, before trying her luck outside Great Britain.
Nothing worked for her at the Group 1 level in France where she faced a terrible defeat in the Prix de l'Opera Longines. Stepping down to this class will give her an extra push, and she can surely make an impression this time.
Including the aforementioned pair, eight horses have entered the 1-mile meeting. The going is heavy for the Listed race for fillies and mare. The €39,000 event is scheduled to get started at 15:25 GMT.
There is no need to look elsewhere. The punters should stick only with Chrysanthemum and Manieree. If the former does not show up, it will be a straightforward trip for the Oxx filly.
