No progress made in reported deal talks between Colorado Avalanche & Milan Hejduk-NHL News
Colorado Avalanche’s right wing, Milan Hejduk, should not have any problems in attracting offers from all corners of the National Hockey League (NHL) if he becomes a free agent but the captain, who wants to stay with Avalanche, might prefer to retire instead
of moving elsewhere purely due to family reasons.
The narrative of the story is that the deal of the 36-year old player is set to expire by end of June this year.
He will become an unrestricted free agent from July 1, if no breakthrough is made for renewal of terms between him and Avalanche by then.
In case he makes himself available on the free agency, receiving offers from elsewhere in the league will not be an issue for him. It is his experience and calibre that will attract teams to him more conveniently.
However, his own priority and preference is to keep playing for Avalanche for more seasons in the future to prolong is career. Yet he also has some family reasons in deciding against moving elsewhere.
The player has two young sons, and he apparently does not want to uproot them or any other member of his family due to education or any other reason per say.
Whether he is able to win another opportunity from Avalanche is a question yet to be answered, and the only answer to it is in the team’s willingness to retain him.
A process of negotiations between the player’s agent, Jiri Crha, and the management is underway without any major success yet.
None of the stakeholders have commented on the status of the talks publically. So the entire situation remains in a phase of uncertainty.
Some commentators have expressed great optimism about Hejduk getting a contract extension but the mum the player and people around him have maintained leaves the problem open to the possibility of multiple outcomes.
By and large, the final decision of retaining or letting the player go rests with the team, and how the management sees him fitting in their future scheme.
