No progress on New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees' contract situation - NFL News
It has been two months since New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees was slapped with a franchise tender after he failed to agree on a new long term deal with the franchise.
From that day contract negotiations have remained stalled completely with no progress being made on ending the saga.
Brees has yet to sign the franchise tender and is likely to hold out of the team’s training camp if a deal cannot be reached.
The quarterback on Wednesday said that he was extremely frustrated with the way negotiations have gone and is not impressed with the lack of urgency shown by the franchise to work on his new long term deal.
According to NFL.com sources with knowledge of the talks have reported that Brees’ comments have led to no progress and talks are still stalled as they have been for months.
It was never expected by either the fans or Brees that negotiations would take so long to reach a long term deal or even remain stalled.
The quarterback is the face of the franchise and is the best player on the roster.
After the problems faced by the Saints due to the bounty scandal many analysts had expected that the franchise would pick up the pace in its efforts to agree on a contract with Brees but that has not been the case.
Brees played brilliantly in the 2011-12 season as he helped the Saints to a 13-3 record.
The quarterback broke multiple records and even ended Miami Dolphins legendary quarterback, Dan Marino’s single season passing yards record as he passed for a mammoth 5,476 yards and 46 touchdowns.
He also completed an awe-inspiring 71.2% of his passes.
With such numbers it becomes all the more surprising as to why the Saints have not locked up the quarterback to a new deal.
Brees wants to remain in New Orleans and end his career in the city which he has made his home.
It is now up to the Saints to end their silence on Brees’ contract and put an offer on the table that will keep the veteran quarterback in New Orleans for many more years to come.
